Hello everyone! Welcome to my ePortfolio.

I have graduated from Pennsylvania State University in May of 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Geography .  I focus on GIS and come to life when discussing the earth and how it is analyzed.  After spending many hours in the advanced GIS lab, a few classmates and I decided to form the Penn State GIS Coalition.  The GIS Coalition is a resource for students taking GIS or cartography courses (or any geography course) that can be used to help them with assignments.  I have always told friends to call me, no matter what time of day, if they need help on a project and now we have created an organized system to do so.

During my last semester, I interned at Penn State and had been working with ALCCAR since May 2011.  The ALCCAR team consists of many partners, from the communities of Ghana and Tanzania to NGO collaborators and university colleagues.  ALCCAR's collaborative action research approach seeks to bolster the capacity of at-risk rural communities to anticipate and creatively respond to climate change, particularly as played out in local socio-ecological systems. We're emphasizing iterative ways of analyzing, learning about, and proactively responding to environmental uncertainty.

Currently, I am a GIS Technician at FirstEnergy.  I work in the Mapping and Engineering department assisting with cartographic cleanup of electric transmission GIS Data in AutoCAD, making maps more understandable to those who use them in the field. Other projects include updating streetlight information, managing unmatched customer data to increase the efficiency of the system, and solving connectivity issues in the program.

Classwork I have enjoyed..

This was an exercise in my Cartography class to show that we could produce various types of maps and incorporate hypsometric color schemes.  View the full size here.

This map of Yellowstone was the second part of the previous assignment, again using hypsometric tints.  This time we added labels and other map elements.

This map assessed the air pollution south of Pittsburgh.

In my Database Management course my group created a database with Access to analyze the seed movements in Africa.  To view the PowerPoint that displayed our obstacles and achievements, click here.
